Educating our adolescents on making the right food choices is an area I am hugely passionate about. Not only does this assist with their mental wellbeing and feeling happy and healthy but it goes so much further into gaining good sleep, improving concentration and thereby performance in exams along with good energy levels on the sports field etc.
COVID-19 has seen a huge surge in eating disorders and anxiety around food and eating. Adding social media to this creates inordinate pressures and conflict within our youngsters today. I want to remove this anxiety and restore their faith in food creating a healthy relationship. I never label any food as 'good' or 'bad’, ‘healthy' or 'unhealthy’ as I’m extremely aware this can be a trigger for pupils suffering from any kind of disordered eating. It is all about balance and enjoyment of every type of food.
Equipping our pupils with the knowledge on how to achieve this balance is a lesson for life that they will be able to take on to university, the workplace and into their own families. The power of food cannot be underestimated and is often so overlooked. Let’s make a difference and empower our future generations.
The latest nutritional research from the BMJ Nutrition, Prevention & Health (Sep 28 2021) states:
“Higher fruit and vegetable consumption was significantly associated with better mental wellbeing in secondary pupils. Also, the type of breakfast and lunch consumed, by both primary and secondary pupils, was significantly associated with wellbeing.”
I am a lively public speaker who can command the attention of the room throughout all year groups and encourage life changing habits.
I will happily tailor The Power of Food talk to any specific needs or concerns your school may have. This can be a 45-60 minute talk during during a PSHEE session or during a workshop over an hour and a half.
